In recent years, televising the criminal prosecution of the courts have become common to aware the public. I think, in spite of few drawbacks, broadcasting testimonies of offenders can be extremely instrumental for the society.

On the one hand, airing criminal trials aid in spreading awareness among the citizens regarding the prevalent criminal activities and it also inculcate fear in the public. It provides an insight regarding the types of offences, tactics of the convicts, hence spread alertness in the society. Moreover, the punishment given to the convicts can create sense of fear among the individuals. The one who plea guilty show remorse which forces individuals to think twice before indulging into unlawful activities. In spite of this, this step is extremely instrumental to bring transparency in the justice system. As many times, the people who are from the affluent background try to bribe the authorities to give final verdict in their favour. Hence, if everything will be telecasted live, the probability of biasness and discrimination would reduce to a large extent.

On the other hand, negative influence of it cannot be ignored as the evil-minded individuals could find it as a source of information for further planning their new trap more cautiously. As during the court session, both parties involved represent their arguments and whole debate takes place in the court room, which provide needed knowledge to the culprits regarding the safety measures to be taken while pursing any malicious activity. To exemplify, many offenders in India has confessed that they have learned new techniques of performing illegal task by watching TV programme named ‘crime patrol’ which is based on real crime stories. Moreover, it can devalue the importance of legal system due to the fact that people would start considering themselves to be judge. Consequently, the respect and fear that one has on the judiciary could decline. Culprits on the other hand could also try to shed fake tears to gain sympathy and correlate a sad story behind his unjustifiable actions. Public, being a supreme authority, can try to protect that person by their power, may in form of protest or march.

To conclude, although permitting the broadcast of court’s procedural activities on television could devalue the law and enforcement, I think it is crucial for making public more cautious and to eradicate partialit
